JEE Main 2025 Exam Pattern Updates

JEE Main 2025

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has implemented several modifications to the JEE Main syllabus 2025 and exam pattern:​

  • Mandatory Questions in Section B: Previously in the JEE Mains exam, candidates had the option to attempt 5 out of 10 numerical value questions in Section B. For 2025, this has been revised to 5 mandatory questions per subject, eliminating the optional choice. ​

  • Total Number of Questions: The JEE exam 2025 comprises 75 questions, with 25 questions each in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. This structure includes 20 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and 5 numerical value questions per subject. ​

  • Marking Scheme: Each correct answer awards 4 marks, while an incorrect response results in a deduction of 1 mark. This negative marking now applies to both MCQs and numerical value questions. ​

JEE Main 2026

While the NTA has not officially released detailed changes for JEE Main 2026, some anticipated adjustments include:​

  • Exam Sessions: The exam is expected to be conducted in two sessions—one in January and another in April 2026. Candidates can appear in one or both sessions, with the best score considered for admission.

  • Syllabus Adjustments: In 2024, the JEE Main syllabus was reduced to alleviate student stress and align with NCERT's revised structure. While the JEE Mains 2025 syllabus remained consistent with 2024, further reductions or modifications may occur in 2026 to maintain alignment with educational standards. ​

JEE Advanced 2025 Exam Pattern

The JEE Advanced 2025 exam pattern has remained relatively stable, featuring:​

  • Papers: Two compulsory papers—Paper 1 and Paper 2—each of 3 hours duration.​

  • Sections: Each paper includes three sections covering Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.​

  • Question Types: A mix of multiple-choice questions, numerical value questions, and matching-type questions.​
